For many years I was Professor of Religious Education in the University of Birmingham School of Education, and moved to Queen’s early in 2005 to teach various aspects of Practical Theology. That involves the frontier between Christian faith and the world, including theologies of money, disability, human development, and above all the mission of Christian faith. I lead the first year module ‘Introduction to Christian Mission’ and provide some input on many others. Every ministerial student in Queen’s is expected to participate in social justice as an aspect of ministry. I lead this element of training, which we call variously Christian Social Justice, Prophetic Ministry or Prophetic Witness. Students are encouraged to be active both on and off the campus on issues of public concern.
I have been totally blind since 1983 and am preparing my fourth book on this subject, to be called The Tactile Heart. This will be a successor to Touching the Rock 1991, On Sight and Insight 1997 and In the Beginning there was Darkness 2001. I am also preparing a book on mission which will be called Christian Mission: Toward a Prophetic Church.
