I have been Principal of the Queen's Foundation since 2003 but have been closely involved in theological education in other forms – as Principal of a regional course and a Local Ministry Scheme, and as a tutor lecturer in a theological college and a University department.  A post in Ireland was formative where much that appeared familiar turned out to be different, where the scandal of separated churches was brought forcibly home, and where my commitment to theological education was formed.

As an Anglican priest I have served in parishes in North London and Cornwall but am also authorised by the Methodist Conference to serve as a Methodist minister. I am an honorary canon of Truro Cathedral. I studied theology at Durham, being awarded a PhD for the thesis: Substitution and Representation: patterns of thought in Christian Atonement Theology.

I teach courses in Anglicanism, but my primary interests are as a practical theologian in areas such as forgiveness and reconciliation, politics and economics, where practice and theology, church and society, are in dialogue.

I am married to Penny who works in administration in the Medical School. We have four (grown) children.  I relax by playing the piano sometimes almost as well as I would like!
