Gary is a Methodist Presbyter, teacher and writer with circuit experience in central Leeds and Leicester, and was Tutor in Mission Studies at United College of the Ascension. He has recently worked for the Methodist Connexional team in the UK and internationally, specialising in cross-cultural experiential learning. He has been active in international partnership work since teenage years.
As tutor and lecturer, Gary teaches a range of courses in mission and ministry, and in practical contextual theology. Courses include Theology in the Marketplace, Mission and Postmodernity, Christian Spiritualities, Mission Leadership and Globalization.
On behalf of the church he has conducted extensive research ranging from the roots of human trafficking to the experiences of ministers transferring from overseas.
A former editor of The Merton Journal, Gary has regularly published and lectured on the life and work of Thomas Merton. He is currently pursuing Doctoral research into the meaning of Actors and Bystanders in Thomas Merton.
Gary continues as a preacher, worship leader and pastor, amateur musician and explorer.
