Gary is a Methodist Presbyter and theological educator with circuit experience in Leeds and Leicester. Previous roles included Tutor in Mission Studies at United College of the Ascension, and connexional officer for Formation in World Mission, working across the UK and internationally in developing cross-cultural learning partnerships. He has been active in international partnership work since teenage years.

At Queen’s Gary has developed and taught a range of courses in mission and ministry, and in practical theology. Those courses include Theology in the Marketplace, Mission and Postmodernity, Mission Leadership and Globalization, Preaching and Studies in Doctrine. Other responsibilities include oversight of chaplaincy-type placements and engagement with public issues.

On behalf of the church Gary has conducted practical research projects ranging from human trafficking to the experiences of ministers transferring from overseas.

Gary has published papers and articles on practical theology and digital technologies.  A former editor of The Merton Journal, Gary has regularly published, lectured and led retreats on the life and work of Thomas Merton. He is currently pursuing Doctoral research into the meaning of Actors and Bystanders in Thomas Merton. Several of Gary's papers are available at:

Gary continues as a preacher, worship leader and pastor, amateur musician and explorer.
