Formation in World Mission (FiWM) is a Methodist initiative designed to resource continuing training and education for discipleship and mission in a global and 'globalized' context.

The FiWM programme, working with training colleges and courses, supports and arranges cross-cultural encounters where various experiences and insights can be effectively shared, and where participants are faced with new faith perspectives and the struggles and opportunities of an unfamiliar setting. Its purpose is to facilitate creative and committed interaction between Christians from different global regions and cultural settings for mutual learning, solidarity and action. We seek to help develop understanding and skills for dynamic, cross-cultural mission engagement.

We have done this through:

  • partnership programmes for individuals or groups;
  • effective, pioneering global training for lay or ordained ministries;
  • intensive placement programmes with partner churches overseas;
  • focused, experience-based research into vital mission-related themes;
  • researching the effects of actual cross-cultural encounter;
  • a network of Christians in the UK and overseas.
