Queen’s MA research reported in Church Times
September 10th 2011
Revd Dr Helen Sammon is a research associate at the Queen’s Foundation, and former MA student. Her dissertation focused on the requests which ministers get for ‘christenings’ and the ways that the church can respond most helpfully to them.
We are delighted that she has been able to share the results of her research with the wider church, through a national seminar for church-related researchers and, most recently, through a feature article in the Church Times (9th September 2011). Helen said:
‘Undertaking this research has been a fascinating journey for me, and I thank the staff of Queen’s for their support and encouragement. The outcomes of my research have not only informed but changed the approach I and our parish now have to requests for christening. We have learnt to listen to the stories of each family and to approach the liturgies creatively and personally. This is what “practical theological research” is all about and I would encourage anyone who is asking questions about their ministry to actively explore them.'
