Queen’s tutor appointed to Church of England Liturgical Commission

April 21st 2011

Mark Earey, Tutor in Liturgy and Worship at the Queen’s Foundation, has been appointed by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the new Church of England Liturgical Commission.

The Liturgical Commission is appointed for a five year period whenever there is new General Synod, so Mark’s membership will run from 2011 to 2016.

The new Commission will be continuing the work on liturgical formation under the Transforming Worship banner and seeing the new eucharistic prayers for use when children are present through to publication. It will also be engaging with the Fresh Expressions movement within the Church and may be asked by the House of Bishops to begin work on some revisions to the Common Worship Initiation Services, as requested by the recent General Synod meeting.

Mark was an Observer on the Liturgical Commission from 1998-2001, when he was National Education Officer for the liturgical training organisation Praxis and editor of its journal Praxis News. This time he returns as a full member, with a vote.
