I have worked part time at Queen’s since 2011 teaching and researching in the areas of mission, evangelism, Fresh Expressions, emerging church and contextual and practical theology. I spend the other half of my time as a Venture FX pioneer in the Methodist Church where I helped to form, and belong to, a new missional community called immerse. I love the interplay of theory and practice that my unique role offers and find that each half of my ministry informs the other.

Qualifications

BTh

University of Cambridge

2007

MA in Theology, Culture and Society

University of Manchester

Roles at Queen's

I currently teach Mission and Evangelism at undergraduate level for first year full time students and second year part time students. I also teach an MA module in Evangelism and the emerging church and another in reflective practice.

External roles and responsibilities

I am an ordained Methodist Minister and have previously served as a circuit minister in the Staffordshire Moorlands and Superintendent of the then Sandbach and Alsager Circuit.

I am currently a member of the Faith and Order Committee and a working party of that committee looking at the ‘Ministry of the whole people of God’. I am also a member of the Methodist Pioneering Pathways (MPP) management group. In 2014 I helped to design the MPP and worked towards it being deliverable within the regions of the Discipleship and Ministries Learning Network of the Methodist Church. Now that this is rolled out across the connexion I have some responsibility for delivery and implementation within the North West and Man region.  I am also a member of the Chester and Stoke-on-Trent District Policy Committee with a particular focus on discipleship and learning.

Research interests

My current research is focussed on theologies of guest with a particular interest on post-modern readings of hospitality. I am also interested in Fresh Expressions, emerging church, missiology, discipleship, theological literacy and models of Christian education.
