BA in Applied Theological Studies
The B.A. in Applied Theological Studies enables you to develop core theological skills that best exemplify, resource and promote the Church’s mission in the world. It gives you the opportunity to deepen your understanding of classical and contemporary expressions of Christianity, and explore the diversity of current contexts in the UK and across the world. It also exposes you to the latest theological thinking, drawing upon a range of internationally recognized research in the discipline.
About the BA
You can study on the B.A. programme F/T or P/T, in the day or in the evening. No prior knowledge of Theology is required for admission to the course. The progamme is validated by the University of Birmingham, and you can exit with a Certificate, a Diploma or a Degree award.
Stage 1 (Certificate Level)
Stage 1 (i.e. Certificate level) is designed to offer students a broad foundation for the academic study within theology. It includes a total of 30 credits of core modules, with a further 90 credits of optional modules taking account both of a student’s prior knowledge and skills, as well as the requirements of any sponsoring church.

- Introduction to Christian Theology

- Foundations in Christian Worship
- Black & Asian Christian Theology
- Cross & Salvation
- Pastoral Theology
- Introduction to Christian Mission
Stage 2 (Diploma level) and Stage 3 (Degree level)
At Stage 2 (i.e. Diploma level) and 3 (i.e. Degree level), the programme seeks to provide a flexible framework by offering 30-40 credits focussing on core skills, and a further 80-90 credits tailored to foster the student’s professional and theological specialization. A central element of Stage III is the requirement that students engage in an extended piece of individual research, by dissertation and/or through a practical placement.

- A placement or attachment in a ministerial or missional setting (Level II)
