Mission Studies

How do Christians discern the mission of God in the world, and how are we drawn into that mission?

At Queen’s we nurture a strong connection between study and practice. You can delve into the history of Christian or Biblical roots of mission whilst developing skills in ‘reading the world’ and contextual theological reflection. You might engage seriously in current church discussions about mission alongside a critique of historical mission movements, then spend time on an experience-based programme alongside practitioners, where you can develop skills in contextual theological thinking.

An introductory course shaped according to Anglican and Methodist ‘marks of mission’ is complemented by other modules designed for a UK / European focus. Mission and (Post)Modernity offers opportunity for practical theological readings of contemporary UK society, with an emphasis on popular cultures and media technologies. Or for a theological engagement with the financial world, consumerism and the meaning of money, we have Theology in the Marketplace. Drawing upon our richly diverse international community, who contribute to a number of these modules, we offer courses in Mission Leadership and Globalization, and Mission in a World Church, which form part of the Mission Leadership pathway of our MA programme.
