The Queen’s Foundation Library
The library is an excellent resource for all students and staff in the Foundation. It stocks a wide range of books and journals, mainly - but not exclusively - in the field of religion and theology. It also provides access to an increasing range of resources in electronic form. The collections have recently been enhanced by the addition of stock from the library of the United College of the Ascension, and the library building itself has been extended with the addition of the Kingsmead Room.
The stock now comprises 50,000 books and 80 current journal titles, with access to a further 300 titles online. Some 750 new books are added to the collection each year to maintain the library’s reputation for excellence. The library serves as a resource for all undergraduate courses currently being followed by students at Queen's, and also provides for the needs of postgraduate research students, mission partners in training, and academic staff. In addition to biblical studies, theology, ethics, pastoral studies, mission studies, church history, liturgy and spirituality, there are growing collections in the areas of interfaith studies, feminist theology, black and liberation theology. There are also good collections of philosophy and the social sciences.
Historically, Queen's has inherited substantial holdings of books from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, as well as some from the sixteenth century, historic editions of the early church fathers, and a good collection of Anglican and Reformed writings from the Reformation to the nineteenth century. The Methodist collection comprises about 2000 books, including many early editions of the works of John and Charles Wesley. The Mission collection, enhanced by the library from the United College of the Ascension, is a growing resource for mission studies and research.
