Training for ordination as Deacon or Presbyter

If God is calling you to ordained ministry in the Methodist Church as either a Deacon or a Presbyter, then Queen’s will equip you to serve a diverse church with confidence and creativity. Students for full-time pre-ordination training are allocated to one of three training institutions, Queen’s Foundation, Birmingham, Wesley House, Cambridge or Wesley Study Centre, Durham. Queen's College

If you are going to be training full-time, then the Queen’s College programme is the natural starting point for exploring what we have to offer. Lectures are focused during the early part of the week, with practical involvement in a local church expected at weekends. Some students live on-site, but it’s possible to live at home and commute to Queen’s daily or to stay for half the week. Typical full-time training lasts two years, but it can be longer or shorter, depending on your age and previous experience or study.

It’s also possible to train on the Queen’s College programme part-time, so your training is spread over three years instead of the normal two.

Queen's Course

On the Queen’s Course you get access to the same top quality training as the College programme, but organised to allow you to carry on with work or with home or family responsibilities. Lectures and worship happen every Tuesday night, and twice a term there are residential study weekends at Queen’s. Each year there is also a one-week Easter School. Training typically takes three years, but it may be shorter depending on your previous experience and study.
