Queen’s is delighted to share news of the appointment of the Revd Steve Muneza as the new Director of Anglican Formation at The Queen’s Foundation.
Commenting on this key senior appointment, Queen’s Principal, the Rt Revd Anne Hollinghurst, said:
“I am thrilled that Steve will be joining us. He brings a range of experience from within both the Church of England and the wider Anglican Communion, which will be such a gift to us. He is someone already deeply immersed in the work of a tutor meeting Church of England formational requirements and has a particular interest in supporting reflective practice and the integration of theology and ministry. This is so essential in shaping ministers who are both rooted in their Anglican identity, whilst equipped to engage with the diverse communities in which they will minister. I look forward immensely to working with him to enable the training and formation we offer at Queen’s to give the best preparation for ministry in today’s church”
Steve is currently Director of Contextual Learning at Cranmer Hall, Durham, having served previously as Director of Formation and Mixed-Mode training. He will bring a wealth of experience from his seven years at Cranmer, where a key area for him has been supporting intercultural and mission-focused approaches to ministerial formation, alongside teaching in areas which include denominational ministry, ethics, and global theologies.
He brings experience of leadership development within Anglican, ecumenical, national and international contexts, and is passionate about enabling theological education for diverse vocations, lay and ordained, across a variety of church traditions. His postgraduate research has been in ethical entrepreneurship and sustainable development, in addition to which he has an MA in global issues in contemporary mission.
Before his post at Cranmer Hall, he served in the Durham North Team Ministry, leading especially on Children, Youth and Family ministry, and heading up various mission and pastoral initiatives. Prior to ordained ministry in the Church of England, he served in parish ministry as a youth pastor, as Academic Secretary of Bujumbura University, Burundi, working with government, bishops, and the Higher Education sector to establish this Christian University, and also as Managing Director of Pacific Seeds, a Christian charitable organisation focused on holistic community development through education, empowerment, and leadership formation.
Steve is currently ECLAS Co-Director for Global Engagement and a member of the Church of England Advisory Board for Initial Ministerial Formation. He is a Member of the Executive Committee of the Anglican Minority Ethnic Network, and was a facilitator of the pre-Lambeth Conference Bishops’ Conversations.
Whilst working across the breadth of our ecumenical Foundation, Steve will work closely with our Director of Methodist Formation to lead our training pathways on which both Church of England ordinands and Methodist student ministers train together, with distinctive denominational elements.
