Rev Angela Sheard

I am a priest in the Church of England; I trained for ordination at The Queen’s Foundation 2019-2022, and then served my title at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London. This is my first role after curacy. Prior to ordination I completed medical school at Oxford (2010-16) and then worked as a junior doctor for three years before beginning my formation at Queen’s. I was previously an active member of Roman Catholic Church, and I was received into the Church of England in 2018 while I discerned a sense of call to ordained ministry.

In my current role here at Queen’s, I am an Anglican Tutor as part of the Ministerial Formation team and am also working towards a PhD. My MA dissertation focused on the identity and belonging of mixed race people within the Church of England, and I am currently working on a book project seeking to explore some of the complexities and nuances in current conversations around human identity in the Church of England, with a particular focus on racial identities.

I am also currently exploring the relevance of Hartmut Rosa’s theory of social acceleration to conversations around mission in the Church of England, with a particular focus on theologies of church growth.

Qualifications

Roles at Queen’s

In my current role here at Queen’s, I am an Anglican Tutor as part of the Ministerial Formation team and am also working towards a PhD. I will be the lead tutor for Spirituality (TMM1517) from September 2025. I am also working towards a PhD.

External roles and responsibilities

I am a member of the Life in Covenant committee, which seeks to further develop the covenant relationship between the Church of England and the Methodist Church

I am a member of the Modern Church council; Modern Church is a charitable society promoting liberal Christian theology

From September 2025 I will be a trustee of Melanesian Mission UK, an Anglican charity which seeks to develop links between the Solomon Islands and the UK
