The American Memorial Chapel Travel Grant

Established in 1961, this grant helps to foster understanding and the exchange of ideas between members of the clergy in the UK and USA, by allowing a member of the clergy to take a study tour to the USA for up to four weeks.

Who can apply?

The grant is offered to a member of the clergy, from any denomination, resident in the UK.

How much is the grant worth?

The grant is worth £2,000, which can be given to one successful recipient or spread across several, at the discretion of the judging panel.

How can the grant be used?

Travel anywhere within the United States, which meets the objectives of the grant. Proposals fulfilling the requirement of developing mutual understanding between British and American clergy are welcome. Past recipients have used the award in a wide range of areas such as: use of outdoor recreational pastimes for Evangelism; undocumented immigrant workers in the USA; parish nursing and health ministry.

What are the conditions of the grant?

  • The successful applicant will be expected to make their own travel arrangements and to organise the itinerary. The visit may last for up to four weeks and must be taken within one year of the grant being awarded.
  • The successful applicant will be expected to submit a report detailing their experiences when they return.

How to apply?

The AMCTG award is now being administered directly by the English-Speaking Union (ESU), the ESU continuing to manage the funds entrusted to it for this purpose by the American Memorial Chapel Trust Fund, as they have done since 1961. Go to:
