Through our collaborative partnership with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), Queen’s offers an innovative and world-class doctoral programme. This programme combines the supportive environment of working with staff and students at Queen's with the scholarly expertise of the Religion and Theology Faculty at VU Amsterdam, one of the largest and most prestigious in Europe. This provides excellent opportunities for all those who wish to combine rigorous theological study with engaged and committed religious practice, as part of a key expression of the Church’s witness to the world.
Our partnership with VU Amsterdam, established in 2014, is a lively and active one. Through our close cooperation with Graduate School and our ongoing research collaboration, we have a direct link to the Religion and Theology Faculty.
We are in frequent contact with members of the VU Amsterdam Religion and Theology Faculty. Primarily but not exclusively through the regular work of supervisory teams which form the heart of the partnership, and in which VU Amsterdam faculty and Queen’s supervisors work closely together.
Regular visits to the Netherlands form a core part of the doctoral programme. These visits represent a highlight for research students and supervisors alike, and provide important opportunities for face to face contact between Queen’s students, supervisors and VU Amsterdam Religion and Theology Faculty.
