Certificate of Higher Education
- Online
- 2 Years, Part-time
- £6120 (can normally be split into 10 monthly payments each year)
Ideal for those with no previous theological study, and limited or no experience in a paid or volunteer position practising theology (by this we mean experience thinking about and working out theology in a professional, community or church setting). The Certificate of Higher Education will introduce you to a range of core areas and topics in theology, whilst also embedding and unpacking all of this within the wider context of Christian discipleship.
This programme is designed to be completed in 2 years, part-time, and we suggest a minimum of 2 evenings or 1 day study a week on average. It may be possible to complete the Certificate in a shorter timeframe. Please contact us at online@queens.ac.uk to discuss your options.
Successful completion of the Certificate offers an opportunity to progress to the Diploma and full BA qualification for those who wish to continue.

Admissions Requirements
Students normally enter this level of study under one of the following categories:
- At least 1 pass at Advanced level
- or 2 passes at Advanced Supplementary level
- or Other formal qualifications deemed to be equivalent to the above by the admissions committee
For any others not meeting standard entry requirements: Applicants will be asked to produce a piece of theological writing that demonstrates their capacity for working at level 4 of undergraduate study. This may include satisfactory completion of a recognised Access course. All such applicants are required to satisfactorily complete a face-to-face interview (either in person or online). They should also supply at least two satisfactory references.
Fees
The fee for each year of study is £3060 (meaning a total fee of £6120 to complete the Queen’s Online Certificate, part-time, over 2 years). This can be split into (normally) 10 monthly payments of approximately £300 each academic year. Depending on a range of factors, you may be eligible for student finance. Diploma of Higher Education

This award is most appropriate for those with some previous experience either studying or practising theology. Building on your prior learnings, this programme explores theological traditions, themes and debates in more depth.

Admissions Requirements
Students enter the Diploma in Theology Ministry and Mission programme under one of the following categories:
- 2 passes at Advanced level
- OR 1 pass at Advanced level & 2 passes at Advanced Supplementary level
- OR Other formal qualifications deemed to be equivalent to the above by the admissions committee
All applicants are required to satisfactorily complete a face-to-face interview (either in person or online). They should also supply at least two satisfactory references. Further supporting evidence may be gleaned through, for example, the submission of written work or the submission of at least two satisfactory references.
In most cases, entrance at Diploma level requires successful completion of theological studies at (at least) Certificate level.
However, in some cases, it may be possible to accept students directly onto this level of study if they have an Undergraduate degree in another discipline and significant experience practising theology (meaning 5+ years’ experience thinking about and working out theology) in a professional, community or church setting. In practical terms, this may mean that you are a volunteer/ employee at a Christian organisation; have undertaken some unaccredited theological study, or have worked for a church, charity or engaged with theology in another setting for a period of time. If you think this may apply to you, contact us to discuss whether you might be eligible to enter at this level. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

BA in Theology, Ministry & Mission
- Online
- Part-time, 6 years* (2 years at level 4, 2 years at level 5 and 2 years at level 6)
- £6120 for the 2 years at level 6 (can normally be split into 10 monthly payments each year). The total fee of the BA over 6 years is £18360.
The BA in Theology, Ministry and Mission is an expansive and robust degree program which complements previous theological studies, but with added focus and academic rigour. It will enable you to engage critically with theological ideas and contribute to meaningful discussions about faith and discipleship.
