Who is it for?
This programme aims to equip Christian ministers, in curacies within the Church of England, to continue to develop as competent and faithful reflective practitioners. To this end, it provides an education in theology, ministry and mission, building on the learning from the Diploma of Higher Education, seeking to complement your IME2 and encourage reflection on the nature and identity of ministry within the Church of England.
Programme Structure
This BA is validated by Durham University as part of the Common Awards scheme and covers 5 to 6 modules, studied part-time over three or two years, for a total of 120 credits. Modules are mainly delivered in a convenient online format to fit around your life, with an intensive 4-day residential on-campus once a year.
The course content will relate theological knowledge to your continued formational development as a curate and as a deacon or priest. You will reflect on your identity as a public minister, serving within a particular context, and on the relationship between this and your own faith and spirituality. You will also explore some biblical texts in depth, looking at the ways in which Old Testament themes and stories are used within the New Testament, and study the impact upon ordinary worshipping people as the Reformations and Counter-Reformation swept across Europe and took particular forms in England.
In your third year (or spread across the two years, if you choose the two-year route), you will have the opportunity to explore in more depth a theological subject of your own choosing, with support and supervision from a Queen’s tutor. This might be through a longer dissertation, or a shorter Independent Learning Project and an online distance learning module with a particular focus on applied pastoral and theological understanding.
