Twelve:2 aims to be a fully inclusive learning community that creates diverse, challenging and gospel-focused learning spaces. Whether you have completed formal, theological studies in the past and would like to keep in touch with what is happening, are thinking about formal study and would like to get a sense of what Queen’s is all about, or formal academic study is just not affordable or right for you, you are welcome in Twelve:2.

Who is it for?

In the broadest sense, Twelve:2 is for everyone seeking to be transformed to know and serve God in the world. It provides a range of offerings to address the needs of all different types of learners at different stages of their theological explorations. If you want to be equipped to think theologically about your work or volunteering in church or Christian organisation or professional role in any sector, Twelve:2 is for you. Equally, if you want to engage in theological study for your own interest or personal development, Twelve:2 is also for you: register on your own and make new connections or come with friends/ colleagues to grow together as a team.

We recognise that no two learners are the same. When you register as a Twelve:2 learner, you will complete a full learner profile, telling us about yourself, what you hope to learn and grow, and one of our tutor team will be in contact to discuss the most appropriate options for you. Although, in most cases, there are no formal entry requirements for Twelve:2 courses, we reserve the right to limit enrolment to ensure that all students receive the most appropriate and value-for-money learning experiences. Why Twelve:2?

Twelve:2 is named after Romans 12:2. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God– what is good and acceptable and perfect”. This represents the core aim of Twelve:2, to support Christians who want to be constantly transformed to bear witness to Christ in the world and respond to the needs of their immediate contexts. Twelve:2 understands that this process of constant mind renewal requires both challenge and encouragement: we aim to offer both.

How can I access Twelve:2

There are multiple ways you can get involved in Twelve:2

The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

This is the hub of Twelve:2, where you’ll find a range of devotional and discipleship resources, including our podcast and podcast extra resources for individual and small group reflection. Our VLE also hosts curated forum discussions, where you can ask questions and connect with other Twelve:2 learners from across the UK and the world. If you’re unsure of which course is best for you, you can begin just with online access.

1 year access to the VLE and its resources and discussions costs £30. This includes a £20 credit towards your first Twelve:2 course begun within the 12 month period.

Individual course + VLE

In combination with the VLE, Twelve:2 hosts a range of specific courses. Whether you are interested in in-person gatherings at our Birmingham campus, live online gathered courses or online courses you can complete at your own pace, there is something to help everyone either begin or continue developing your theological knowledge, awareness and skills.

Our courses are individually priced, depending on their style, level and length. All courses, regardless of price, include 12 months’ VLE and library (physical and online) access.

Entry requirements

Most courses do not have formal, academic entry requirements, but not all courses are appropriate for all learners. In discussions with your link tutor, you will decide what is best for you. If you are a neurodiverse learner or have specific accessibility needs, in liaison with your link tutor, we will ensure that as many reasonable adjustments as possible are made to ensure full participation for everyone!

For native English speakers, we recommend as least a good pass at English GCSE (or equivalent) or for others, at least a 6.5 IELTS score. We also recommend that Twelve:2 students have access to a tablet or PC. Although some elements of the VLE can be accessed on a smart phone, most Twelve:2 courses will require a larger screen and a stable internet connection for effective participation.

Do I have to work for the Church to register for Twelve:2?

No. Twelve:2 is designed to address the needs of both ordained and lay Christians who wish to study for a range of professional and personal reasons. We aim to create learning environments that welcome everyone! Some courses may be specifically aimed at people in certain positions or particular areas of responsibility, but others would be appropriate for anyone.

Do I have to come to the Birmingham campus to take part?

No. You can participate in Twelve:2 from anywhere in the world. A range of courses will be made available to those who are able to attend in-person but there will be plenty more that can also (or only) be accessed online.

Do Twelve:2 students write assignments?

Some of the courses may offer the option to complete assignments or written reflections based on your learning. However, these are not required and can be discussed with your link tutor.

What can I work towards as a Twelve:2 student?

We think it is important for all learners to have stretching but realistic goals. In liaison with link tutors, Twelve:2 students can discuss the most appropriate path for them. This may include progression onto other topics and modes of learning within Twelve:2 or other courses or pathways within Queen’s more broadly.

How to register for Twelve:2?

The first step is to complete an initial registration form. Here, you can decide whether you wish to register for VLE only (to begin with) or for a specific course:
Upon receipt of your form and fee, you will receive a student profile form to complete. This asks for a little more information about you and your reasons for joining Twelve:2.
Then, you will discuss your next steps with your link tutor (either by email or telephone). They will help you decide the best way forward.
