How can we live our best lives? What does that entail? What does it mean to be human? We all find ourselves asking deep questions about life, what it is and what it’s for at times. God’s children are no different – they have wrestled with these same questions for millennia drawing on scripture, philosophical influences, observations of the world around them and reflections about Jesus’ life and ministry to help them make sense of life and how they should live it. From their wrestling many radical ideas and surprising proposals have surfaced about the nature of human creatureliness and our relationship to the earth – some more satisfying and helpful than others! This course offers you the opportunity to reapproach these questions for yourself, exploring the responses offered throughout Christian history and drawing your own conclusions.

What’s Covered?

Topics / ideas / people and questions you’ll find within this course’s learning landscape include:

Biblical Anthropology – what does it mean to be created creatures that are part of broader creation?
Eschatology – what is God’s plan for the earth and the future?
Philosophy – who were Plato, Darwin, Hegel and Descartes and how have they influenced Christian thinking?
Natural Theology – what can nature and science teach us about God?
Christology – Arius, Irenaeus and the Council of Nicaea: how has the church tried to make sense of Jesus’ incarnation and divine-human nature and what can we learn from that?
Missiology – what sort of action and witness is the church called to?
Liturgy – how do things like prayers, creeds and sacraments shape and inform our understanding?

…and what are we to make of things like the Imago Dei, Gnosticism, death, resurrection, the incarnation, the book of Leviticus, sabbath, ecology, evangelism and the gospel?

How to Register?

The first step is to complete a registration form. Payment of £60 for the course will be taken at the point of registration.

Upon receipt of your form and fee, you will receive a student profile form to complete. This asks for a little more information about you and your reasons for joining Twelve:2.

You will then receive two further emails: A welcome email from your link tutor who will be there to offer support as you engage with the course, and an enrolment email giving you access to our Twelve:2 learning platform where the course is hosted.

Your access to the course and Twelve:2 will last from the day you receive your enrolment email.
